How To Fix Video Noise: Remove Grain With This NEAT Plugin!

We’ve all seen plenty of videos full of grainy footage or visible noise. It’s incredibly common, especially when filming in low light or using a lower budget camera with a smaller sensor. You’ll also frequently get noise when dealing with footage shot on older cameras, or recorded from non-digital sources, like analog TV or VHS. In fact, “grain” or “noise” is typically an effect film producers add to footage to make it LOOK older!

Unless it’s the effect you’re going for, noisy footage will *at-best* lower the quality of your videos, but *at worst* it could render your footage completely unusable.

There ARE a number of free options to “reduce” video noise. I’ve played with a LOT of them but none achieve anything close to a professional result. The best solution I’ve found is a professional grade plugin that costs just $80US.

That plugin is called Neat Video. It’s used by a huge number of professional editors, and works with all major professional editing software (including Premiere, FinalCut & Avid).

I use it ALL the time to polish up noisy footage for my clients. I honestly can’t count the number of times Neat Video has almost completely fixed footage that I thought was completely unusable… It’s incredibly simple to use and the results are fantastic! In this video we’ll take you through exactly how to use it.

  1. Hi Justin, can we use Neat Video Plugin for more than one video or you have to pay everytime you want to use it? thank you

  2. There is no huge difference just a subtle difference. I can see some grains or noise even after using the plugin.

  3. So to clarify, I would have to purchase both adobe premiere and video plugin? Both cost about $75 each not just $75 for both? Is this also good for videos?

  4. So $130 and we only get the set up for one computer and one program… and it's over 4 years old. dang.

  5. I couldn't find the download button from the homepage of neat video, is it free and can you help me?

  6. hey Justin, do you have any tips regarding noise after adding a LUT? my footage looks clean but then when I add a out I can see some noise, like mini wave shapes..

  7. I don't see neat video as an option in CC any more any idea if they replaced it or named it something else?

  8. There is this green square with "demo" written on the corner and it wont go away, I already reduced noise, but the square is still on the footage, what should i do?

  9. Nice video man, appreciate it a lot. But I must say, it doesn't really fix the noise off completely but still worth it (before and after scene)
